Having one of these phones means being able to call someone in case of an emergency or get a call for a job interview. In the age of fast internet and cell phones, missing a call for a job interview means it probably won’t be waiting for you to come home and call them back to make an appointment.

Now, in order to get one of these cell phones you fit the government definition of low income and not already have a phone. You can apply online. You will either need to submit income proof or have a case number for services such as food stamps to qualify. Once you are approved you will get the free government cell phone and charger in the mail and new minutes will be added each month in accordance to the plan you selected when you signed up.
